Andreas Fuchs – Lighting Designer


Andreas Fuchs has been working internationally as a lighting designer for theatre, opera and live events since 1989. Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with renowned directors, choreographers, architects and artists including Claus Peymann, Stephan Bachmann, Daniel Libeskind, Aletta Collins, Herzog & de Meuron, Vera Nemirova, the Bolshoi Ballet, Martin Wuttke, Giorgio Armani, Volker Schlöndorff, Rebecca Horn, Runar Hodne, Gil Mehmert and Richard Jones.

Since 1992, he has maintained a particularly significant artistic collaboration with director Robert Wilson. As lighting designer for more than twenty-five productions, including internationally touring works such as Dr. Faustus Lights the Lights, Hamlet – A Monologue, Une Femme Douce and Dreamplay. Additional collaborations include Three Sisters, Der Ring des Nibelungen, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Leonce and Lena, The Threepenny Opera, Shakespeare’s Sonnets and The Little Match Girl.

Fuchs’ work has been presented at leading theatres, opera houses and festivals worldwide, including the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Festival de Théâtre des Amériques (Montreal), Salzburg Festival, Brooklyn Academy of Music and Lincoln Center (New York), Opéra Bastille (Paris), Staatsoper Berlin, La Monnaie (Brussels), Opernhaus Zürich, Biennale di Venezia, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Royal Opera House and English National Opera (London), National Theatre (Oslo), Glyndebourne Festival, Dramaten (Stockholm) and Ruhrtriennale.

Since 2005, he has served as Production and Lighting Designer for the arena tours of Marius Müller-Westernhagen, including the MTV Unplugged production.

In 2014, he created the lighting design for the world premiere of the musical Das Wunder von Bern (Stage Entertainment, Hamburg).

In the field of large-scale televised live productions, he has been responsible for the lighting design of the European Film Awards (2008–2014), the UEFA Final Draw in Paris (2015), the FIFA Congress and Opening Ceremony in Munich (2006), as well as the UEFA Champions League Draw in Monaco (2024–2026).

His portfolio is further complemented by lighting concepts for exhibitions — including the Museum for Communication and Technology in Hamburg and the Contemporary History Forum in Leipzig — as well as international corporate events for global brands such as Škoda, Samsung, Universal Music, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Bayer, YouTube, Siemens, SAP and Bosch.
